What are the FATF categories of PEP?
FATF distinguishes three categories:
1. Foreign PEPs — individuals entrusted with prominent public functions by a foreign country (heads of state, senior politicians, senior government / judicial / military officials, senior executives of state-owned corporations, important political party officials). 2. Domestic PEPs — individuals entrusted with prominent public functions domestically. 3. International organisation PEPs — persons entrusted with a prominent function by an international organisation (directors, deputy directors, board members and equivalent).
FATF requires EDD for foreign PEPs in all cases; for domestic and IO PEPs, EDD is risk-based.
